At the end of March, CNIM’s employees had the opportunity – at their own workplace – to find out more about alternative modes of transport for commuting to work, which could help them to save money, reduce their CO2 emissions and make their daily journeys safer and less stressful.

Several of the partner organizations involved in the initiative, such as the town of La Seyne-sur-Mer, the French Environmental and Energy Management Agency, the West Toulon Enterprise Development Association, the Var Road Safety Association, the French Police, the SNCF, the Var Transport Network, the Mistral Transport Network, and the bicycle retailer Cycles Verzelli, attended to make employees more aware of not only the public transport options that are available to them, but also the importance of road safety and courtesy. To complement the launch of the car-pooling website managed by La Roue Verte, speed meetings have been offered to drivers so that they can get to know each other before they share lifts. Cyclists have also been able to get advice about how to look after their bicycles properly and stay safe on the road, as well as other useful hints and tips. Finally, mini-discussions have been hold to give a different perspective on car use.

“This initiative forms part of the action plan that was devised after we implemented our Corporate Social Responsibility policy, and also shows how committed we are to providing our staff with every opportunity to change their commuting habits,” explains Bernard Silvestro, the Deputy Manager at CNIM’s La Seyne-sur-Mer site and in charge of implementing the company transport plan.“We hope that the day we’ve organized will mark the beginning of a collective effort that will not only make the day-to-day lives of our employees easier but also help the environment.”
