LAB provides an innovative and technology proven Flue-Gas-Treatment for Kaunas Combined Heat and Power plant in Lithuania

CNIM's subsidiary LAB is pleased to announce the contract signing for the design, engineering, supply, erection and commissioning of the flue gas treatment with condensation (to recover energy from flue gases) for the new EfW (Energy-from-Waste) Combined Heat and Power plant in Kaunas, second largest city of Lithuania. The project is developed by the joint-venture KKJ, composed of the stateowned energy group Lietuvos Energija and Fortum, a leading clean-energy provider.

The capacity of this one line plant is 200,000 ton/year of waste and it is designed to produce 24 MW of electricity and 70 MW of heat out of which almost 22 MW will be generated by the Flue-Gas-Treatment condensation unit. The facility is scheduled to open mid-2020 and will supply 40% of Kaunas’ heat.

The plant’s flue gas treatment is based on LAB’s proprietary technologies and is composed of:

  • A dry SecoLAB® unit
  • A condensation unit to DH (District Heating) combined to combustion air humidification.

LAB technologies guarantee high performances with optimized consumption of reagents and high availability of the plant. The facility will further enhance LAB’s references in Northern Europe: it will be the second plant built by LAB in the Baltics, the first one being the CNIM plant in IRU Tallin (Estonia).
