Treatment and recovery of waste

Success of the Open Days at the Valorys waste sorting and treatment site in Pluzunet (Côtes d'Armor, France)

During the weekend of 12 and 13 October 2019, the Syndicat Mixte pour le Tri, le Recyclage et l'élimination des Déchets (SMITRED), organised the 3rd edition of the "open house days" at the Valorys waste sorting and treatment site in Pluzunet operated by CNIM Ouest Armor. Objective: to enable the population to familiarize themselves with the techniques and professions of waste sorting and energy recovery. This operation was a great success, with 13,700 visitors.

Since 2007, CNIM Ouest Armor has been operating the Valorys de Pluzunet waste energy recovery unit (UVED) on behalf of SMITRED (Syndicat Mixte pour le Tri, le Recyclage et l'élimination des Déchets). The site treats waste from 118 municipalities.

Jean-Yves Menou, President of SMITRED, accompanied elected officials throughout the weekend. CNIM Ouest Armor teams were mobilized to welcome visitors to the control room, on the unloading dock and finish with a visit to the bottom ash refining facility. This 3rd open house offered visitors several workshops related to recycling professions in an atmosphere animated by actors.

The Valorys waste recovery centre in Pluzunet, which was commissioned in 1997, processes 57,000 tonnes of waste per year. This installation is equipped with a boiler and a turbo-alternator to produce about 17 GWh of electricity per year as well as thermal energy to heat horticultural and vegetable greenhouses. In 2017, CNIM won the renewal of the operating contract for a period of twelve years.
